Julie Thies Dunlap

Julie Thies Dunlap is a multi-generation Kansan who grew up in Overland Park during the George Brett Era. After graduating from the University of Kansas with a degree in Human Biology, Julie began a career in human resources, interviewing countless Kansas Citians for jobs across the metro area before moving to Hutchinson and later Lawrence, KS, where she and her husband raised their five kids. It was in Lawrence that Julie returned to her first love of sharing stories.

Since 2008, Julie has worked as a freelance writer, local talk show host, music composer, and award-winning playwright. Credits include a weekly humor column for the Lawrence Journal-World, co-writer and producer of the award-winning play MotherFreakingHood! A Musical Comedy, co-host of “Living Local” talk show, freelance writer for Lawrence Kids Magazine, Lawrence Business Magazine, and L Women’s Magazine.

Nurtured with a deep appreciation for the stories of her ancestors and having raised a family of her own, Julie joined the My Legacy Recording team in 2024 to facilitate the priceless gift of passing along oral tradition. Julie lives in Lawrence, KS with her husband in their recently-empty nest where she dreams of winning “Guy’s Grocery Games” someday. She is happy to meet clients most anywhere in Northeast Kansas and the Greater KC Area.
